Keeping My Eye on the Prize

Matthew has been sobbing off and on all morning. He does not want to go to physio today. Makes it hard as a Mommy to continually take your child places that they don't like for the simple fact that it hurts.

He has spent the better part of the morning curled up in my lap, big tears rolling down his face begging me, pleading with me, making deals with me to get him out of it. I have tried explaining why and I think deep down he knows. Just some days are harder then others.

I find a lot of inspiration in song lyrics. Nickelback's song, If Today Was Your Last Day has some pretty powerful lines. I love the line

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight

Yup. Always worth the fight. And we are off to do battle. Off to the orthotist to see if we can come up with a solution for the extra ankle room, then off to p/t. Today it does feel like a battle, but one that we will win.

"If Today Was Your Last Day" - Nickelback

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

Beautiful song - I hope Matthew is feeling much better now. I can't imagine how tough this is on him.

Hi Jo-Ann! Thanks for visiting my blog. It's actually my daughter who is currently wearing the Denis-Browne Bar. She is pidgeon-toed and has (mild now) hip displacia, which is why our orthopedic decided on the bar. She was born with the HD, but the pidgeon toe-edness didn't show itself until she started walking. That caused the HD, which was under control, to come back, hense the new course of action. I don't know that we'd fit in with the clubfoot blog list, but if you think we would, I don't mind being added!

Hugs on your journey! I hope you're li'l guy's doing better with the therapy.

A song can definitely speak in ways that mere words can't ... Hang on to those thoughts today! Poor Matthew ... I would just cry right along with him. In fact, when I do that with my kids, it at first surprises them (which is kind of funny -- stops them in their tracks!), and I think they get it on some level that you're not the bad guy, that you love them, that it's hard for you too. It's a tough, tough journey ...

Awww, poor little guy. But how lucky he is to have such a caring, loving mommy like you. One day he'll see how important it was to keep all these appointments that he's dreading now.

Good luck, hope he's doing better.
