Paranoia or Trained Eye?

Physio went well for Matthew yesterday. His regular p/t is out of town so he saw a new p/t. She was pleased with his foot. Said before the session he was at 5 degrees and after was at 12-13 degrees. That is great to hear.

She worked on his active dorisflexion. Also great to hear that we have moved on from just stretching him to the active side of it.

She said he worked hard and was a wonderful little boy. Again. Fantastic to hear.

So why am I feeling uneasy? I hope it is just a simple case of paranoia, but I am worried that it is my eye that has become trained to look for changes.

I know it is subtle, but tell me, what do you see?

Take a deep breath. Remind yourself what the physiotherapist said. Now take another deep breath, smile and quit being paranoid! :)

You went yesterday and the physio said everything was great so I'm sure you are just being paranoid! Can you send the picture to Dr. Dobbs for piece of mind? I know all about paranoia! I still make Marc confirm that the bumps on Riley's ankles are her ankle bones! Ha!

Interesting...you are years ahead of me in this CF game us mothers play, but Levi's foot has always been the same way, even after only 1 cast, it's that forefoot that turns in, and I think always will to some extent compared to the other and I think that's the nerve damage part. So, the OT in me would say, "Well, is he functional?" And the answer is YES so I would think that's what the PT is going on? Keep me posted on what your orthotist does to the AFO and I'll do the same. :) Jamie

Hey thanks for stopping by my blog! I've actually visited your blog a few times before. Your little boys are very very cute! I'm glad that your physiotherapist is happy with what he sees!! I'll keep following your journey. Love your blog's name, by the way!

{hugs} I think I know what you see. But I agree with Allie. Maybe Dr. Dobbs can ease your mind. I sometimes get the "things are going to well" feeling and convince myself that something bad would happen or my luck would change. I am sure you are just paranoid.

I am so with you on this! I think I must look at Grace's foot 1,000 times a day -- and when I "see" something (the slightest turn, her heel not quite hitting the ground, etc.) my heart momentarily stops. I can see why a wet footprint on the pavement would cause a moment of panic ...

Paranoid? Not in the least -- not after what you've gone through. I do believe that there is this fine line between "functional," as Jamie said, and ... well, what? Perfection? You know it will never be that way -- and yet you've seen how GOOD it can be, so the slightest deviation from that does make your heart skip a beat.

I'm not sure what Dr. Dobbs will be able to tell you from a wet footprint, if you decide to go that route. Do I see some inward turning? Absolutely. Could he have just been running a little funny in that moment? Maybe. I think if I was in this boat, I would watch and wait a bit more ... which I'm sure you do on a daily basis. :)

The other comments are right -- take heart in what your therapist told you. I too always take that with a grain of salt, when our dr. tells us she's fantastic, yet I see that M.A. glaring at me ... but flexibility IS a key factor, and he's doing great in that department. Hang in there!! Keep us posted!

I'd send the pic to Dr. Dobbs so that you can have peace of mind.
Was he running? With his atypical case and his still being in therapy, it would be odd to me if he wasn't walking/running at little different with that foot. I'm sure it still feels different from all the casting and time off it.
