The End Of Summer

I love summer. I love the heat, the sun, the green grass, the flowers, the wind in the leaves. I love summer.

And, I especially love our backyard in the summer. This year, we had some surprises. The bird seed that the birds knocked out in winter started growing and we now have a small sunflower garden. It is located in a beautiful spot below our deep purple clematis flowers. It has become my favorite spot in our yard.

And, for night time, I wove 400 mini lights for added enjoyment. We love sitting out in the evening, enjoying a glass of wine, chatting with our neighbors here.

I am sad to say that my clematis flowers are falling and today is cool and cloudy. I fear that my summer heat will have to wait until next year. It is just out of reach, and yet, I miss it already.

Stunning!! You've got quite a good eye for capturing beautiful photos. Yes, it IS sad when you can begin to feel that chapter slowly beginning to close ... Today is in the mid-70's again and just perfectly beautiful -- yet I can feel a different sun. There's just that tiny, almost unnoticeable twinge in the air that says "fall" ... Not here yet, but waiting closely in the wings.

I grew my first clematis this year -- huge white (almost lavender-tinged) blooms. It stayed pretty small -- I suppose it must take a little while to root itself well. But what do you do with clematis at the end of the season? Cut it down? All the way, leave a few inches ... ??? I don't want to do the WRONG thing and lose it. :)

We too love to sit outdoors, but the mosquitoes are always awful this time of year so we just can't enjoy the cooler nights. Love the lights!

Your flowers are beautiful! We just moved into a new house and the previous owners were really into gardening. I'm totally clueless about flowers and aside from watering them, I don't know how to handle them! I'm almost relieved that summer is coming to an end, so I have 6-7 months to read up on how to take care of the beautiful garden next year!

I also love what you did with those lights. Truly gorgeous!!!

I love the end of summer. So crisp and pretty.

I'm jealous of your clematis, we have a strange backyard and can't grow it to save our lives. :)
